RACE IN THE CINEMA [EDIT]
ROCKY: JUMP TO FAME

Stallone did not gain fame until its protagonist paper in the world-wide success Rocky of 1976. The 24 of March of 1975, saw the fight between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner, fight in which the fundamental idea of Rocky is based. The night of the fight, Stallone, inspired, went directly to his house and, after three days, had already written the libretto: he tried to sell it with the intention of interpreting the main role. Although they liked the producers, they had in mind an already consecrated star like Ryan O'Neal, Burt Reynolds or Robert Redford for the protagonist; Even offered large sums of money for Stallone not to star in the film, but rejected all offers until the studio allowed him to play the protagonist.

After the resounding global success of the film, Stallone was thrown to fame and was considered as a dramatic protagonist. Rocky won the Oscar for Best Picture and Stallone was also nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor and Oscar for Best Screenplay. In 2016, he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for the movie Creed, a Rocky spin-off.

The sequel Rocky II, written and directed by Stallone, was released in 1979 and became a resounding success by raising $ 220 million in box office and gave direction to successful and millionaire continuations of the saga of Italian boxer Rocky Balboa during the 1980s: The character became one of the icons of Hollywood cinema.

WORLD STAR IN ACTION, DECLINE AND RETURN FILM

Throughout his career, Stallone has exploited the tough-guy male archetype and has rejected serious and dramatic films: he has starred in numerous action films, with some unsuccessful raids on comedy. After his attempts in the dramatic genre in the late 1970s in tapes like F.I.S.T. And Paradise Alley, who despite receiving positive reviews failed at the box office, has been reviled by critics on many other tapes because of his remarkable musculature and lack of emotional expressions in his performances; In spite of it, it is a clear exponent of the cinema of entertainment of the last three decades.

Among his cinematographic works, he highlights his performance in First Blood, where he portrayed a tormented war veteran named John Rambo: this one is assaulted by an abusive local police chief, forcing him to unleash a wave of revenge. The critics hailed his performance, claiming that it had given him a more human appearance than the character originally had in the novel. During the decade of the 80, it was followed Rambo II and Rambo III, that were enormous international successes in the box office.

Aside from the sagas of Rocky and Rambo, between its blockbusters films are Cobra of 1986; I, the hawk of 1987; Lock Up 1989; Cliffhanger 1993; The 1994 specialist, co-starring Sharon Stone and James Woods; Assassins of 1995, next to Antonio Banderas and Julianne Moore; And two detective comedies: Tango and Cash 1989, with Kurt Russell, Demolition Man 1993, co-starring Wesley Snipes and Sandra Bullock. In 1996, it enjoyed some success with the film of catastrophes Daylight.

In 1997, trying to change the stereotype of "action star", obtained the protagonist in Cop Land, next to a vast cast among which were Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and Harvey Keitel; Fattened about twenty pounds to play a mediocre and overweight cop in the state of New Jersey. His performance was well received by critics and considered the best interpretation he has given since Rocky in 1976. He received the Best Actor award at the Stockholm International Film Festival.

He also acted in a series of resounding failures in the critics and box office as Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, Oscar, D-Tox, Driven and Avenging Angelo. In 2005, he premiered the reality show The Contender, produced and conducted by him and former champion Sugar Ray Leonard, in which sixteen boxers from different cities of the United States are gathered in a house where they train and each week fight in a tie. The show was a resounding success in the United States and the rest of the world.

Stallone tried to revive past successes through the films Rocky Balboa and Rambo. Despite the abuse on both franchises and against the predictions made by film critics, the two tapes were well received by the audience.

In 2010, he started The Expendables project, which directs, produces and stars. The film tells the story of a group of mercenaries who go to a special mission to overthrow a violent dictator in a South American country. The actors who co-star in the film are Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, Eric Roberts, Stone Cold and Randy Couture. The actors Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kurt Russell, Danny Trejo and Steven Seagal refused to participate in the film, although the first then participated in the second part as main antagonist. The premiere took place in August 2010. Stallone claimed to have suffered a broken neck during the filming of The Expendables. He was awarded the honorary prize "Jaeger-LeCoultre, Glory to the Filmmaker" at the Venice International Film Festival. In summer of 2012, premiered the sequel box office The Expendables 2, directed by Simon West.

Directed by Peter Segal, Grudge Match tells the story of two retired rival boxers preparing to fight once again in the ring. In November 2012, his participation in the drama Reach Me was confirmed. The film, directed by John Herzfeld, tells the story of how the lives of several people are joined by a self-help book written by a retired football coach. The film is co-starring Danny Aiello, Ving Rhames and rapper Nelly, among others. On August 15, 2014, the action film The Expendables 3 was released. In June 2014, the German production company Splendid Films confirmed that Stallone began working on the script for a fifth installment of Rambo. According to the producer, "with Rambo V, Sylvester Stallone returns in his iconic role. This time it goes against a Mexican cartel. Stallone describes the new Rambo as his version of No Country for Old Men. "

Stallone returns to give life to Rocky Balboa in the tape Creed (2015), where Balboa is the trainer of the son of its old rival and friend Apollo Creed.
